More power is added to the 2022 Toyota GR 86 Sports Car

The second generation of Toyota GR 86 is completely new. However, it matches the same rear-wheel-drive transmission as seen in the first-generation car. The 2021 Toyota GR 86 is manufactured with the help of Subaru BRZ.

Toyota ignited a lot of excitement when it first revealed the joint project with Subaru.  Moreover, the automaker has heard the complaints of its customers in the previous generation which is why it has added additional horsepower. If you are curious to know how powerful this sportscar is, keep on reading and make sure to check the CarSwitch website where you can buy used cars in Dubai

Engine and Performance

Similar to the first generation car, the 2022 Toyota GR 86 is built with a naturally aspirated 4 cylinder engine which is given by the Subaru. This horizontally opposed engine offers a robustly fast acceleration due to the powerful 2.4 liter engine which delivers 228 horsepower. This is 23 hp more as compared to the last car’s 2 liter engine. It’s standard transmission is again the 6 speed manual whereas a 6 speed automatic transmission is given as an option.

Although the 2022 Toyota GR 86 has not obtained the fuel economy estimate from the EPA, the previous generation received the ratings of 24 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on the highway. It was a total of 27 mpg when the 6 speed automatic transmission was being used.

Cabin and comfort

As observed from the pictures obtained through the official automaker’s website, it is obvious to see that the 2022 Toyota GR 86 maintains the proportionate dimensions and shape of the last car. Even the weight of the car which is 2,800 pounds isn’t too different. The new Toyota GR 86 and Subaru BRZ are distinct among the affordable sports car category. Moreover, these are the only 2 vehicles which provide seating space for 4 occupants.

Even though the back seats are not that big or plush, thru still feel decent. The cars of Toyota and Subaru seem to have similar looking cabins. However, a few changes can be seen in the dashboard around the infotainment system.

Coming to the infotainment system, it is obvious that the automaker was preparing to offer an updated display for the new year.

The previous generation car used to have a 7 inches touch screen along with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay interfaces. However, the software of these two interfaces were not too supportive and the general system was too plain.

But as seen from the pictures, it is a good news that the buyers will be given a bigger screen this time. Apart from this, a lot more convenience, features and tech will be included. For instance, an onboard WiFi, a wireless smartphone charging pad and much more.

Safety features and driver assistance functions

As it’s known that the previous model offered very less in this department, the new 2022 model will be equipped with a wide variety of safety features. Some of the basic safety tech will be:

1- Standard adaptive cruise control

2- Standard forward collision warning and automated emergency braking

3- Standard lane departure warning and lane keeping assistance

Warranty and maintenance perks

There is no reason as to why Toyota will make any changes in the existing GR 86’s standard warranty package. However, the automaker’s 2 year complimentary maintenance policy is something which BRZ lacks in comparison. More coverage benefits are listed below:

  1. Powertrain warranty which covers 60,000 miles or 5 years
  2. Limited warranty which covers 36,000 miles or 3 years
  3. Complimentary maintenance which covers 25,000 miles or 2 years

Wrapping it up

Although Toyota has not spoken anything about the cost of features, the customers are definitely hoping for more comfort as opposed to the base GR 86. However, this performance car is wrapped under the second generation of the 86 Sports Car. In other words, it is a 2022 Subaru BRZ with a Toyota badge. No wonder that it’s so special.

The best information thus far received is that it comes with a larger 4 cylinder engine, a faster 0 to 62 mph as compared to the predecessor, and a rear wheel drive configuration. After knowing all this, it is certain that the rest of the features will be equally brilliant.
