An Overview of FSSAI Registration

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India is abbreviated as FSSAI. This regulatory body was established to investigate the quality criteria of food-related industries. In India, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) is the primary regulatory organisation in charge of awarding food permits.

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare established this authority. This body, as well as all food body operators in India, would be subject to the provisions of the FSSAI Act.

This organisation was established as an autonomous institution to administer the quality of food in India in order to meet with international food safety standards. This organisation verifies that the food is pure and suitable for human use. The FSSAI has mandated that quality checks be carried out.

This licence is required for any business that deals with food goods. This licence, for example, must be obtained by the maker. Aside from that, this licence is required by other organisations participating in the food manufacturing process. As a result, it is critical to follow the FSSAI’s rules.

It is necessary to have an FSSAI Registration License.

Every food operator must comply with specific standards set forth in the FSSAI Act, 2006. Sections 31(1) and 31(2) of the Act would require every food operator to get this licence from the appropriate authority.

The phrases FSSAI licence and FSSAI registration are not interchangeable because they are defined by the size of the firm. Every food-related firm would be required to register with the FSSAI online.

Previously, FSSAI registration was done online through the Food Licensing and Registration System (FLRS). The Food Safety and Compliance System (FosCos) has been in existence since November 2020, replacing the previous system (FLRS). This is a critical update that must be followed exactly.

If a new licence is required, the applicant must use the FosCos system. Any registered user who had a licence in the previous system should double-check their licencing data in FosCos.

A 14-digit number will be generated for the user once the business has been registered. This number is made up of five separate components, each of which is distinctive in its own way. This number must be displayed in every location where the company operates. Aside from that, all goods packages must include the number.

FBOs, or Food Business Operators, are operators who deal with food goods under this system. The Food Business Operator, as defined in section 3(0) of the Act, is an individual or business owner who takes all reasonable precautions and measures to guarantee compliance with the Act.
